10EMESConf – Visualizing the citizen collective movement

During the 10th EMES International Research Conference on Social Enterprise professor Tine De Moor gave a presentation titled ‘Visualizing the long-standing past of the current citizen collective movement by building a taxonomy’ (by Tine De Moor and Marianne Groep-Foncke, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University).

Tine presented her work for the UNICA project, where she and her colleagues study the historical evolution of Institutions for Collective Action (ICAs) in Europe. She talked about how different types of Institutions for Collective Action (ICAs), such as commons, guilds, mutuals, and cooperatives emerged in different contexts across time and place. Through the creation of a taxonomy, the project aims to identify these archetypes and trace how ICAs have evolved. This approach helps to understand how collective organizations adapt and persist, and offers new insights into their long-term role in Europe as self-organizing alternatives to market- and state-based governance

The presentation was part of the session Communal SE – Commons Creation on Tuesday 4 November. This was the first day of the conference and took place in Rotterdam, hosted by the Erasmus University. During the EMES conference week, several team members of the SEICA research group will present their work. View the full program.
