Madeline Buijs

Biography

After completing her Master’s degree in Economics (Utrecht University) and a Master’s degree in Political Science (University of Amsterdam), she started her professional career at the Authority for Consumers & Markets as an economist and project leader. In 2012 she joined ABN AMRO as a sector economist for Construction and Real Estate, where she was responsible for ABN AMRO’s vision on economic developments and trends in these sectors. Her research was used for clients, internal strategy and policy development. Since January 2022, she has been working as Chief Economist and Head of Research at Colliers, a real estate advisory firm. She manages the research department, which conducts research into the various real estate markets and the trends and developments within them. The common thread throughout her career has been conducting research and developments in the housing market.

In addition to her professional career, she is active in the board of the Austerlitz Zorgt, a healthcare collective in her hometown of Austerlitz. She is also the chair of the board of the NuVoorStraks housing association in Austerlitz. These initiatives ensure that the village of Austerlitz remains liveable for all generations. This has brought her into contact with the role of citizen collectives as a solution for problems that the market or the government can’t solve. This has sparked her interest in the role of alternative forms of housing in the housing market, the subject of her part-time PhD.
