Karoline Heitmann – PhD candidate

Biography

Karoline started working as PhD Candidate at the department of Business-Society Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2021. As part of her PhD, she specializes in the topic of pathways towards resilient social enterprises, looking both at their financial sustainability as well as their societal impact. Prior to this, she worked for over three years at the European Venture Philanthropy Association with corporate social investors (such as corporate foundations, impact funds, accelerators, social businesses). As applied researcher, she focused on the latest corporate social investing trends, such as how companies, corporate foundations and corporate impact funds can work collectively to help social enterprises scale, and (co-)authored numerous articles, case studies and other materials. Next to this, she organised events and workshops across Europe and supported the organisation of the C Summit, Europe’s first corporate philanthropy and social investing summit. Karoline holds an MSc in Global Business and Sustainability (cum laude) from Rotterdam School of Management and a BSc in International Business Administration from Radboud University Nijmegen.
